Hong Kong Events - December 2027

December 2027 is the wind-down and the party. Christmas Day falls on Saturday 25 December, with the second holiday on Monday 27 December, and the whole city has been lit since the WinterFest switch-on in November. Clockenflap, Hong Kong's flagship outdoor music festival, is expected on the Central Harbourfront in the first days of the month. For Temple Street this is prime season: cool, dry weather, the claypot-rice stalls at full tilt, and the biggest crowd of the year on New Year's Eve, when the market trades late and the harbour countdown is a short ride away. It is the best month of the year to spend a long evening here.

🎄 Christmas and the city

Christmas in Hong Kong

📅 Saturday 25 and Monday 27 December 2027

Two public holidays, with the city's Christmas lights and installations running through the month and into January.

Why go: the market trades every evening through the holiday, and the cool weather makes it the most comfortable time of year to walk the whole street — expect crowds from about 7pm.

📍 Location: Hong Kong-wide; Temple Street runs as normal

🎟️ Cost: Free

🏷️ Categories: HOLIDAY, CHRISTMAS

🗓️ Status: Confirmed public holidays for 25 and 27 December 2027

Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival

📅 Expected in the first days of December 2027

Hong Kong's flagship outdoor music and arts festival, on the Central Harbourfront, with a multi-stage line-up of international and local acts.

Why go: the biggest live-music weekend of the Hong Kong year, with a harbour backdrop — the 2026 edition ran from 4 to 6 December, and the line-up is announced in the autumn.

📍 Location: Central Harbourfront Event Space

🎟️ Cost: Ticketed — check clockenflap.com

🏷️ Categories: MUSIC, FESTIVAL

🗓️ Status: Annual festival; the 2027 dates and line-up are not yet confirmed

🎆 New Year's Eve

New Year's Eve at Temple Street

📅 Friday, 31 December 2027

The market trades late into the night as the city sees out the year.

Why go: one of the best free nights of the year — street food, fortune-tellers and the singing parlours all going at once, and everyone in a good mood.

📍 Location: Temple Street, Yau Ma Tei / Jordan

🎟️ Cost: Free entry; food and readings as usual

🏷️ Categories: MARKET, NEW YEAR

🗓️ Status: The late trading is the market's usual behaviour, not a published 2027 schedule — check the opening hours page nearer the date

Victoria Harbour countdown

📅 Friday, 31 December 2027 - from late evening

The city's New Year's Eve countdown and harbour display, watched from the Tsim Sha Tsui and West Kowloon waterfronts.

Why go: the fireworks are free to watch, and Kowloon-side spots are within reach of Yau Ma Tei — but the crowds are enormous, so decide early where you are standing.

📍 Location: Victoria Harbour waterfront

🎟️ Cost: Free

🏷️ Categories: FESTIVAL, FIREWORKS

🗓️ Status: Annual event; the 2027 programme is not yet confirmed

🧭 Practical notes for December

  • Best month of the year: cool, dry and festive. Bring a light jacket for the evening, and expect the market to be busy every night from mid-December.
  • New Year's Eve: the busiest night of the year on the harbour and in the market. MTR runs late but stations near the waterfront close or manage crowds; plan your exit before midnight.
  • Christmas bookings: restaurants, hotels and ticketed shows across the city sell out in the first half of the month.
  • Getting there: Jordan MTR is the closest station. See how to get here.
  • Timing: check the opening hours and closing time pages before a special trip.
  • Entry and prices: free to walk; food and readings are paid and any quoted figure is indicative. See the 2027 food guide, the claypot rice guide and fortune-telling.
  • Free alternatives: the Tin Hau Temple, the Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market and the Christmas light installations on the harbourfront.
  • Before you travel: December events are announced through the autumn. Check Discover Hong Kong or the best time to visit, and see the 2027 calendar overview for the year ahead.

Get to the Night Market

Visitors and locals alike congregate in the evenings in Hong Kong's last remaining Night Market. The Night Market at Temple Street has been a fixture of the Jordan/Yau Ma Tei district since at least the 1920s and probably before.

Today it boasts market stalls with fashions and accessories, seafood and claypot rice in traditional Dai Pai Dong restaurants, fortunetellers and tarot card readers, and Cantonese Opera singers. Nowhere else in Hong Kong is such an interesting cross section of Hong Kong culture, cuisine, commerce and society to be found.
